The “New” Dog

Tim took Quinn to get her hair shaved, and I guess it’s been a while since we last did it because Cady didn’t recognize the dog. To be honest, the very first time Quinn got this haircut, we didn’t recognize her ourselves.

Although it wasn’t as bad as the time the groomer took out a totally different dog when it was time to pick her up. The conversation went a little like this:
Groomer: “Here’s Quinn.”
Tim: “That’s not Quinn.”
Groomer: “It’s Quinn,” as if we just didn’t recognize her with her new cut.
Tim: “Quinn is white.” This dog was a Yorkie.

Anyway, it’s taking Cady some time to get used to the “new” dog. There was a lot of crying at first. Now we just have conversations like this.

Cady: “Dog. Dog. Quinn.”
Me: “That’s Quinn.”
Cady: “Quinn? No, no, no.”

Life Lately…

Cady

At first I was having blogging withdrawals since my carpal tunnel issues, but I’m starting to get used to not posting and reading. Sorry I haven’t been a good bloggy friend and visiting your sites. The problems have slight improvements if I don’t spend time at my computer since I once spent a lot of time here and sat improperly. I’ve also realized that the way I sleep and do other activities is contributing to the problem. It’s been a major setback on all the things I wanted to accomplish this new year (like learn Photoshop, crochet, make more cakes), but today I’m feeling okay about that.

Quinn at Oyster Creek

We just did the usual types of activities, so nothing crazy happened while I wasn’t writing besides having a great time at the Barney Live, Birthday Bash Tour concert. We went to the library where a little girl kept bringing Tim toys and another little girl wanted to hug Cady with such enthusiasm that they both nearly fell over a few times had I not been cloes enough to catch them. I also went to an indoor play place where I met up with a couple of friends and their daughers. One of them kept thinking my legs were her mom’s and running up to hug them.

Sweet Shot Day

I’m planning on taking an online class for 12 weeks (with about a two week break halfway) at a local junior college, which I’ve read the syllabus for and find pretty interesting. I hope to start in February if we have the money, and if not, I’m sure we will by the time the March class starts. I really think I’ll learn a lot and enjoy it. I’ve also been reading some great books from the library and plan on starting the “assignments” in one book soon.

It’s funny because all throughout college, I was so certain of my major, and now I have no interest in the subject that I got my degree in and have totally different interests. Now I’m like, “why didn’t I study this in college?” Well I know why: because I wasn’t interested in the same things back then.

The “winter” is still bi-polar here. Yesterday it was 70 degrees, but they predict snow for the end of the week.

Tim's cake for Ian

My husband’s friend (who is his “big brother” from his fraternity but is actually younger than him) requested a cake, but he was the one who made it since my hands still need rest. I think he did a great job.

A Cool Day at the Park

I decided to start my study of possible portrait locations with my husband as my first posing subject. I don’t consider the baby one since I have to capture her in a purely photojournalistic style. She doesn’t pose. She just does what she does, and I’m on my own as far as making the picture happen. She’s a baby. Not a model. I’m happy with that.

So far we’ve been focusing my area of study at a park. There is a lot at that park, and there are many spots where I could put someone for pictures. I think I’ve barely scratched the surface of it, and I’m looking forward to going back to continue my study of it as well as trying out other locations.

We started off by running a couple of errands and eating lunch. Then I just let my husband play his guitar while I took his pictures. Every once and a while, I’d ask him to move to a new spot. Just twice I asked him to turn a certain way or move his foot, but I figured I’d mostly let him pose naturally the way he would while playing.

I really enjoyed myself, and it put me in a good mood. We wouldn’t be able to do something like that most days since at least one person would have to be watching Cady, but she was hanging out with my parents. Plus it was another not so crowded day because of the weather. Cold, cloudy days are not so popular there, but I like them for taking pictures.

For those that wonder where Cady got the red in her hair, it’s from Tim’s beard! It’s like a calico cat. I told him it represents his past, present, and future hair colors (red, brown, white).

It’s c-c-cold! Brrr!

The low went down to 23 degrees last night! Here! In Texas! I know people in colder climates deal with worse all the time, but we’re just not used to it. It’s a bummer not spending time outside besides the walk from the car to the door, but we don’t want the baby to be too cold.

It’s funny because I ask myself, how did I live in Caen (in the lower Normandy region of France) and just walk everywhere when it was so cold there? Then I looked at weather.com to check out the temperature in Caen, and it was actually warmer there!

It’s going to be in the high 60s again next week. It’s very characteristic of the weather here to change drastically by 20 degree differences within a week. We were wearing tank tops exactly 3 days before Christmas eve and winter coats when we went to church the 24th. I’m glad though because I miss being outside. Maybe we need to find some gloves and mittens for me and Cady.

This is how we’ve been entertaining ourselves indoors…

Cady

We went to Toys R Us to look for a car. This one was too big for someone so small. We’ll get it for her birthday or Christmas if her feet can reach the pedals by then.

Cady

After we got the right size, we took it home and drove it around. This was immediately after eating spaghetti. No time to interupt play to put on clean clothes or put our feet inside the car.

Cady

Then Cady played with her friend. Well mostly they hugged, gave each other kisses, and made everyone saw “awwww” over and over again at their sweetness.

I took this picture at the park after dropping off Cady at my parents’. It looked just right out for photos even though we were losing light fast, but it was too cold to stick around long anyway. Too bad because the park was nice and empty (because of the temperature I’m sure). My hands were shaking so much from shivering that a lot of the photos came out blurry. Next time we’ll definitely bring a tripod. Can’t wait to get my remote shutter release later this month.

Tim

It’s funny how “dark” outside is so bright, but “bright” inside is so dark. The magic of natural light.

Tim took this picture for me. I had him stand where I was going to be in the shot. Put the settings, took a practice shot of him, and switched places. He did a great job.

Christmas Day 2010

Hark the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations rise.
Join the triumph of the skies.
With the angelic host proclaim:
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!

Christmas Eve

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Merry Christmas!

Our family Christmas card from Shutterfly. The quality is fantastic, and the premium luxe cardstock is the best paper I’ve seen yet.

The Christmas card that I made for my parents. My mom requested that their family as well as our family be on the card. I made this on my computer using Picasa and added the holly with Picnik (through Picasa). We bought the best matte photo paper available at Office Depot as well as a pack of envelopes and printed two cards per 8.5×11″ sheet using the highest print quality settings. We used a Canon printer, and I used a scrapbooking paper cutter to halve each page. They turned out really well, and I might just be making our cards from now on. I was very impressed with the printing quality.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Let your heart be light,
From now on our troubles
Will be out of sight.

Sick Day Saturday

I’ve been getting worse. Partly due I’m sure to the fact that I haven’t been getting good sleep because Cady hasn’t been getting good sleep. The dentist predicted this would happen right after our visit because of her molars coming in, so I’m going to blame it on them.

Yesterday Tim took Cady to my parents’ house to spend the day with them while I stayed in bed and watched Filipino telenovelas on the DVR.

We had plans with my family that night, but I was too tired/lazy to fix myself up except for a little makeup (which is typically the case even when I’m not sick). I met up with my parents, the baby, and Yaya at their house while Tim dropped off our Christmas cards and returned/picked up books at the library.

We all met up at Saks Off where my mom wanted to take my shopping for shoes and dresses. We were in the really big dressing room that had a place to sit, and Cady was pretty bored watching me try on what seemed like 20 dresses until my mom gave her my makeup bag and let her have at it.  It started out with 9 dresses that my mom had picked out, but everytime she left to get one in a different size, she came back with 4 more. It was exhausting, but I found the 2 that I wanted.

After that we met some aunts, uncles, and a cousin at a Chinese restaurant where I was actually able to taste. Yay! It’s good, too because they have great food, and I was really looking forward to eating their fried rice. One of us even got something interesting in a fortune cookie that made the whole family have a laugh.

“Something wonderful is about to happy”

Well that’s good news.
