Splash Park Goodbye (For Now)

Cady
We loved going to the splash park last year. Sadly, they’re going to be closing it down this summer to do some construction. The new plans for it sound exciting, but I wish they had waited until summer was over to do the work. Maybe it will take a whole year before it can be ready for next summer.

We decided to go for one last hurrah even though it was a little cold, and Cady was one of the few kids who spent her time in the water. She loves playing in water!

Weekend Update

Tim

Tim and I had a really great lunch date in the city while the baby was with my parents. He suggested a place he thought I’d like because of their delicious beignets. I’m glad we made reservations even though I thought they’d be empty at 3 in the afternoon because there was actually quite a long wait. We requested on the reservation a table by the window since I had never been before (Tim had only been at night), but the whole dining room turned out to be bathed in great natural light from the large windows. It was such a pretty restaurant even the hallway leading up to bathrooms was lovely.

Cady threw up from coughing too hard again. This time she was already asleep in bed, so it made a big mess and kept us all up late. It wasn’t too bad though. After a little crying, she calmed down, and we let her watch a little Barney to cheer her up while we cleaned everything and had a good laugh as to how the throw up magically made it into the bathroom.

Tim, “maybe some flew in there.”
Me as I gestured the path it would’ve had to have taken, “it flew out and turned the corner??”

My carpal tunnel has been hurting a lot the last couple of days, so I shouldn’t be at the computer at all, but I’m so behind on returning comments. I made a mental list one night when the pain kept me from sleeping of the things I’m allowed to do on the computer from now on (like writing posts) and the things I’m not allowed to do (aimlessly browsing Facebook). I’ll really be stringent on my time online in the next couple days since my Photoshop class is starting online on Wednesday (yay I’ll finally learn how to edit), and I’ll really need use of my hands to learn, practice and complete assignments.

My husband pointed out that I frequently have typos in my blog. I’m kind of embarassed. I’m not dumb. Honestly. I’ve just been sleep deprived for the last 18 months and probably rushing when I type a little here and there at few minutes at a time to add to an entry before I post it. I know. Excuses, excuses. Maybe I’ll have him proof read my posts from now on (because he just has so much free time– not really).

My contacts came in the mail, and I saved $70 by buying it from 1800Contacts and getting a 6 month supply. Not advertising. Just excited about any money saved.

Tim helped me make Valentine’s Day red velvet cupcakes for a mommy/baby party tomorrow, so that I wouldn’t have to do too much work with my hands. I took a nap because of a headache, and when I woke up, he had come home with fried chicken because he knows it’s my favorite and didn’t want me to have to cook dinner, and he also got eggs to make the cupcakes for me.

To all my bloggy friends, I really appreciate your support. I will read and comment back on your blogs and am always working on it a little at a time even though I’m currently and frequently behind. I will also return the favor to my blog buds who have added my button to their sites. I know I’m late on that as well.

7 Fun Facts

Thank you to Lili and Jesslyn Amber for the blog awards. Here (finally) are my 7 Fun Facts.

1. I graduated from a Baptist university where I received my B.A. in political science, joined a sorority, and got to ride in the locally televised homecoming parade wearing an evening gown for being one of the homecoming queen nominees as well as participate in other homecoming events.

2. I have somewhat of a curved spine, which wasn’t discovered until x-rays after a car accident (it wasn’t my fault) revealed them to a doctor. My husband said he couldn’t see the curve, but that he could feel it if he touched my back.

3. I love country music. I don’t know if that’s weird because I’m Asian or if people already expect it since I live in Texas, but I don’t really listen to much else (with the exception of baby/kids music). I love cowboy boots, small cities, rodeos, and dancehalls although I haven’t been in any of those since I got married minus the small city when we go back to my alma mater for homecoming.

4. I’m Filipino-American, in case I haven’t mentioned it enough on here already. I love Filipino food and Filipino telenovelas. One of my second cousins who still lives in the Philippines (and is absolutely gorgeous) is an actress who has done a few telenovelas herself. Also, my mom’s late uncle was once a cardinal of the Catholic church in the Philippines.

5. I love Europe. I mean, what girl doesn’t? I first went with my parents in 11th grade and again my freshman year of college before going on my own to complete my language credits. I really enjoy the food, the shopping, and the beautiful cities. I wouldn’t mind living there when the kids are grown up.

6. When my husband and I first got married, we would hold hands in bed every night while we slept. He oftens still takes my hand at night, and it really helps me let go of any worries or anxious thoughts that might keep me from relaxing and going to sleep.

7. Two words: Gabby Gazette. It was my pretend newspaper/magazine about current events in my life on a two column spread I wrote on our family computer when I was in fifth grade using a kids software program called Creative Writer (I had Fine Artist, too). It was a lot of fun, and I would have different sections (all written by me) including a poetry corner. I don’t think I ever printed it for anyone to read, but looking back, it was kind of like my first blog.

I don’t wanna be anything other than what I’ve been tryin’ to be lately,
All I have to do is think of me and have peace of mind,
I’m tired of looking ’round rooms wonder what I gotta do
Or who I’m supposed to be

Being A Mom

Cady was actually coughing so much when she woke up that she threw up. A lot. Chunks. On the sofa, her blanky, pajamas, and my pillow.

It made me laugh at myself on the inside while I cleaned up and tried not to breathe in my nose or let myself think about how gross it was or my stomach would hurt. I was thinking, “being a mom is kind of gross sometimes.” I had to rinse everything off and put them in the tub until Tim comes home and re-connects the washing machine connection that was allowed to drip over night due to the freezing temps.

Our living room smells like throw up and Febreeze. Mostly throw up.

Don’t worry. Her cough is kind of pathetic in the morning and at night, but Shorty’s ok.

[ It seems like a couple other moms are having similar experiences this morning. Diana from Find Your Happiness said, “It’s throw up day!” ]

2011 New Year’s Resolutions

Last new year’s eve. Cady and I both brought pajamas to the party and were wearing them by 10pm. We went home before midnight and probably will do the same this year.

Well, I guess I started thinking about New Year’s Resolutions even earlier this year (a couple weeks before Thanksgiving) than last year. What can I say? I get excited by the new start. I was looking over my list from last year, and I’ve decided that some goals just won’t get done, which is fine. Some goals were also kind of vague, but that’s okay. Some of my new ones are, too.
I have an even bigger, more ambitious list for this new year:

– cook new recipes and learn Filipino cooking
– sew, crochet, other crafts, and Silhouette machine projects
– cake/cupcake decorating
– get out more and explore fun things to do in the area
– improve photography skills, photograph daily (and sometimes, be in more of the photos)
– take more family videos
– take dogs to dog park, spend more quality time with them
– give Cady more opportunities to play with other kids
– learn how use Photoshop and to install and use Photoshop actions
– go to church at least once a week
– work on decreasing “Real Age” (eating red meat once a week or less, eating fish more than once a week, flossing, exercise, taking a multi-vitamin daily, eating better)
– post tutorials and recipes on the blog
– spend time with mommy friends (I’ve been a hermit unless Tim was taking me somewhere)
– write to my sponsor child every month and mail letter in a timely manner

The last couple of days…

I’ve missed tasting food and breathing through my nostrils. My throat and lips get dry from breathing through my mouth. My poor baby is starting to get sick again, and she misses playing with Mommy who is hugely lacking in the energy department. I wasn’t able to think clearly enough to blog yesterday either.

On the bright side, tonight my husband took her to my parents’ house to play, and he came home with Robitussin and Coconut Curry Beef from Pei Wei. My fortune cookie had some good news, “you will soon emerge from the maze you’ve been traveling in.”

This is what Cady has been into lately. She wants (me) to stack random objects onto tiny kids chairs. Here we’ve got: a (real) pumpkin, a Carebear, a beach bucket, a musical Barney, a Hello Kitty, a World of Warcraft baby griffin, her dolly, a plastic kids plate, and a singing teapot.

Sick… Again…

I’m sick again. I can’t remember the last time I was sick this much in one year. I guess it’s further evidence that I need to take better care of myself and to handle stress more effectively. I’m thankful that these minor discomforts are nothing serious and that my parents and husband are so helpful.

Cady has been a little cranky and possibly a little uncomfortable, too. It only makes sense that she’s not feeling well if I’m not or that her teeth are bothering her. I started to feel her molars erupting. One yesterday and one the day before. Luckily, I still have enough energy to give her a little extra comfort when she needs it.

I think we all (including Daddy) could use some good rest.

New Mommy Hair

My mom took me to get our hair done together today since I’ve been looking kind of shabby. Most of the time I don’t really care, but sometimes a woman wants to look nice. She talked me into getting my hair colored lighter (from my natural black). I also got layers and an overall trim. Had my eyebrows waxed and lightened to match the hair, and the stylist curled it with an iron to show me how it would look with curls. Guess I’ll be looking a little extra special for the Christmas concert at church tonight.

Real Age

I took this test less than two years ago, and my RealAge (as seen on Oprah a while back) was about two years younger than my calendar age. Since having the baby, my RealAge is now 2.5 years older than my calendar age. My poor hubby did a lot worse. There’s a dog one, too (dogage.com), and Quinnie did awesome except that she needs more exercise (like her people).

Some things that make me younger:
Having a healthy BMI (body mass index).
Having parents that stayed together.
Being happily married.
Not taking any meds.
Wearing my seatbelt.
Being a non-smoker.
Avoiding second-hand smoke.
Having a dog.

Some things that make me older:
Worrying.
Headaches and migraines.
Lack of exercise.
Not flossing enough.
Eating red meat more than once a week.
Eating habits.

We know we need to take better care of ourselves, so we can have healthier lives. I think working on our RealAges is something I’ll add to my New Year’s Resolutions. Well, being more active is definitely something my husband and I have been talking about improving, which is tough for me because I’ve always hated working out. I also need to serve less red meat, more fish, and more fruits and veggies. Oh yes, and I really have to force myself to floss.

What’s your Real Age?
