Happy New Year!

New Years is one of my favorite days of the year. I love the promise and hope of a new year. So many possibilities! I guess it’s just fitting that New Years is also our wedding anniversary. Three years married on January 1st, 2012.

I also love making resolutions. I know I make overly ambitious lists, but that’s okay. I like to dream big. Daydreaming is one of my favorite activities. Granted, I don’t always keep the resolutions, but a lot can happen throughout the course of the year. Goals change.

With that in mind, here is my list for 2012:

~ Build my photography business and continue to improve my photography. There’s a lot that goes along with each of those.
~ Shoot daily. 365 project here I come (366 actually since 2012 is a leap year).
~ Also, once a week that daily photo should be a self portrait (52). That one makes me more nervous.
~ Organize my digital files. At least delete the ones I really, really won’t need ever. They can accumulate so fast and take up so much room, especially RAW photos.
~ Unsubscribe from emails from all the stores I thought I would want to keep up to date on the sales with but never ended up actually shopping at most of the last year.
~ Eat organic. This may have been on my list last year, and while I know I won’t be able to do it 100% with everything I eat, I think at least the food I cook should be.
~ Work on our new house. There’s still so much organizing and decorating to be done around here.
~ Blog more. That’s a big one. I lost my blogging mojo in 2011, and I need to get back some motivation, especially now that I have a new photography blog as well.
~ Take better care of myself. I get sick a lot more now that I have a kid, and I think it’s due mostly to the fact that I don’t have the best eating habits, need sleep, and need exercise.

We spent New Year’s at home just the three of us because Cady was really sick with RSV and under house arrest.

When she started feeling better, we took her for a walk in her pajamas to the playground for her first outing since the weather in Texas is surprising nice this time of year (often sunny with temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s). She seems so sad and lonely here watching the big kids play, but she got really happy once she felt like she was playing, too.

Cady so happy to get out of the house for the first time since getting sick.

Goodbye 2010

{ Nutcracker my sister brought back from her winter trip to Germany }

We had some good times. 2010 wasn’t a perfect year (since there probably isn’t such a thing), but it was a wonderful year. We were happy, healthy, and together as a family. We couldn’t ask for anything more. Looking back, I can’t believe how much Cadence has changed and grown up.

I can’t forget to mention that my favorite show to talk about ever, LOST, also ended in 2010. I can’t believe that either. I sometimes get a little sad when I remember it’s over, but we also got Filipino channels in 2010 that have brought me lots of new dramas to get sucked into.

Here are just some of the things we did last year…

And much, much more!

Our Anniversary aka New Year’s Day

“Don’t marry the person you think you can live with; marry only the individual you think you can’t live without.” James C. Dobson

—- We spent the first day of the new year and our anniversary morning sleeping in. Cady and Tim slept until past noon. We were up late. Cady even made it to midnight, and we celebrated at home after leaving the family party at my parents’ house that ended at 11 because everyone was tired. We rang in the new year with kisses and a family group hug that included the dog.

The afternoon started with an almost 17 month old who is obsessed with Barney a little too much and now requesting him round the clock. We need to work on that. We managed to get her dressed and ready to go to Toys R Us to make use of a Christmas gift card from her grandmother in California. We got an outfit, a toy shopping cart, sippy cups, and snack traps with plenty left for more fun another day.

After going home for some milk and hanging out, we took Cady over to my parents’ house where Yaya watched her while Tim and I celebrated our anniversary by going to dinner at Benihana’s. I think it’s our anniversary tradition. We’ve done it on every one so far. Good food. Fun show.

Afterwards, we went to Old Navy just to get some socks for Cady but also ended up buying two Hello Kitty t shirts. When we passed Pier 1, I saw something that immediately got my eye. “Oooh! Look at that ruffly pillow! Really ruffly.” Tim said, “Oh that’s useful.” He makes me laugh.

2011 New Year’s Resolutions

Last new year’s eve. Cady and I both brought pajamas to the party and were wearing them by 10pm. We went home before midnight and probably will do the same this year.

Well, I guess I started thinking about New Year’s Resolutions even earlier this year (a couple weeks before Thanksgiving) than last year. What can I say? I get excited by the new start. I was looking over my list from last year, and I’ve decided that some goals just won’t get done, which is fine. Some goals were also kind of vague, but that’s okay. Some of my new ones are, too.
I have an even bigger, more ambitious list for this new year:

– cook new recipes and learn Filipino cooking
– sew, crochet, other crafts, and Silhouette machine projects
– cake/cupcake decorating
– get out more and explore fun things to do in the area
– improve photography skills, photograph daily (and sometimes, be in more of the photos)
– take more family videos
– take dogs to dog park, spend more quality time with them
– give Cady more opportunities to play with other kids
– learn how use Photoshop and to install and use Photoshop actions
– go to church at least once a week
– work on decreasing “Real Age” (eating red meat once a week or less, eating fish more than once a week, flossing, exercise, taking a multi-vitamin daily, eating better)
– post tutorials and recipes on the blog
– spend time with mommy friends (I’ve been a hermit unless Tim was taking me somewhere)
– write to my sponsor child every month and mail letter in a timely manner
