Free Day at the Zoo #4

She has been to the zoo five times and has yet to make it there without falling asleep on the ride into the city.

Some animal photos taken with my point and shoot since it has a really good zoom, and I don’t have a good zoom lens for the DSLR yet.

2011 New Year’s Resolutions

Last new year’s eve. Cady and I both brought pajamas to the party and were wearing them by 10pm. We went home before midnight and probably will do the same this year.

Well, I guess I started thinking about New Year’s Resolutions even earlier this year (a couple weeks before Thanksgiving) than last year. What can I say? I get excited by the new start. I was looking over my list from last year, and I’ve decided that some goals just won’t get done, which is fine. Some goals were also kind of vague, but that’s okay. Some of my new ones are, too.
I have an even bigger, more ambitious list for this new year:

– cook new recipes and learn Filipino cooking
– sew, crochet, other crafts, and Silhouette machine projects
– cake/cupcake decorating
– get out more and explore fun things to do in the area
– improve photography skills, photograph daily (and sometimes, be in more of the photos)
– take more family videos
– take dogs to dog park, spend more quality time with them
– give Cady more opportunities to play with other kids
– learn how use Photoshop and to install and use Photoshop actions
– go to church at least once a week
– work on decreasing “Real Age” (eating red meat once a week or less, eating fish more than once a week, flossing, exercise, taking a multi-vitamin daily, eating better)
– post tutorials and recipes on the blog
– spend time with mommy friends (I’ve been a hermit unless Tim was taking me somewhere)
– write to my sponsor child every month and mail letter in a timely manner

Free Day at the Zoo #3

On our way to the city with Bunny along for the trip.
Snacking on some puffs.
Eating corn and fried chicken at Daddy’s school where he ran a quick errand.
Our first time seeing the primates together.
Cady: “Monkey! Oo oo ah ah!”
I think they’re now her current favorite animal after ducks and bunnies.

Seinfeld:

“Mr. Kramer, he is an innocent primate.”
“So am I! What about my feelings? Don’t my feelings count for anything? Oh, only the poor monkey’s important. Everything has to be done for the monkey!”

Free Day at the Zoo #2

Last Tuesday was the first Tuesday of the month, which is the free day at the zoo (after 2pm). There were hardly any people there compared to last month, and the weather was really nice. They missed out. It was warm enough at first for shorts and cool enough for a sweater at times, but it was quite a relief from the 90 degree weather we were having in October!

The great thing about going to the zoo more frequently is that you don’t have to see it all at once. We can walk around leisurely and leave when we’re tired, which doesn’t take too long since we’re with a 15 month old. Since it’s free, we’re not worried about getting our moneys worth. We can see a little at a time and save the rest for later. We’ll probably get a membership eventually.

This is Cady’s going to the zoo face.
It’s becoming a trend.
Notice the milk drool on her lip.
The first thing we did was head to the children’s zoo area.
We couldn’t resist a ride on the carousel.
Cady was a little nervous and held on tight to Daddy.
Then we checked out the petting zoo.
Cady was a little nervous and held on tight to Daddy.
Cady knows that goats say, “ba!”
She also thinks that cows are the same as goats.
She didn’t say anything about the llama.
Anything with a beak and feathers is a “duh” (duck).

Free Day at the Zoo

I found out just in time on Monday that the first Tuesday of every month (after 2) is free day at the zoo, so the three of us went together when Tim got home. Now that her choices mostly consist of walking or riding in the stroller, she actually appreciates having a ride. She likes walking a little bit, but she knows now that she has a good thing going with the stroller. She likes her wagon a lot, too. We were thinking about bringing that next time. I didn’t get as many animal photos this time, but the baby pictures are the important ones anyway.

She’s very excited about our zoo trip. This reminds me of the last time we went.
She is good at taking the cup in and out of the cupholder as she needs.
First up were the red pandas.
Mommy usually doesn’t make it in the photos since she carries the camera, but I really am there as well as the turtle with the really long neck!
Fascinated by fish.
We definitely need to check out the downtown aquarium when Tim is on vacation.
These guys were huge. I wondered if they were an edible species.
She was a little nervous when Daddy went in the fish tank tube. He’s silly.
Watching desert birds, squirrels, turtles, and other small mammals.
This guy looked kind of fake. Is he alive? I didn’t see him move…
Outside the meerkat habitat.
The baby elephant’s name is Baylor, just like my alma mater!
Right after the elephants, they had an Australian Shepherd Dog habitat. We’re not sure why they live at the zoo. They should live on a farm, so they can do their work. Plus dogs belong with people. Cady liked it anyway since she knows the word for dog.
A zookeeper was giving the big cats milk.
We stopped for burgers, chicken tenders, and fries at the cafe. Cady likes hugging plastic bottles for some reason.
We bought a giraffe/blankie friend in the gift shop on the way out. It was great for helping her sleep more comfortably in the car on the way home.

It was a great day.

Japanese Gardens

Tim and I took Cady to the Japanese Gardens yesterday. We actually got lost on the way there because I had mistakenly thought it was by the wrong park. I saw some police cars and said, “Police. We can ask them. Oh, nevermind. They’re arresting someone. Probably not a good time.” Then we left the wrong park to get some cell service and found the gardens on the map located by the other park. It all worked out though because Cadence had been cranky and fell asleep in the car. This just gave her more time to nap.

Sitting next to some admirers.
Walking with Daddy.
Watching the ducks.
Walking across the bridge with Mommy.
More duck watching.
Mouthful of bananas.
Time to go.

There’s nothing better than spending time together.
