Me and My Family

My carpal tunnel type pains have been improving so long as I don’t do too much with my hands, which is tough since that’s nearly everything. Tim got me an ergonomic keyboard, which is pretty nice. Texas got really cold, and we had rolling blackouts due to all the energy use. The predicted snow never made it to our area, and all the kids (and grownups) were pretty disappointed, but Cady maintained a good attitude (since she didn’t know what was going on).

Cady

Tim and I went to a certain big camera store for the first time, which was pretty busy, just to look around, and we met a minister in the parking lot who was parked next to us, happened to notice him and I both graduated from the same Baptist university (I have a sticker on the back of my car), and wanted to meet me and Tim/invite us to his church.

Cady

My sister was on the front page of the local section of the newspaper for some great work she did at her university. Tim took me shopping, and besides buying clothes for the baby of course, I actually got a couple of things for myself, which I’ve rarely done since having the baby.

Also, we went to a new Asian market near us, which I really like even though they didn’t have everything our previous store does because it was really organized, had great crab, had good deals on a couple of my favorite items, and is conveniently located. The Yan-Yan were on the bottom shelf and had Hello Kitty on them, so of course, Cady tried to take every single one. She made the cashiers go crazy when we were leaving with all of her waving and blowing kisses.

Cady and Tim

I almost forgot. The JoAnn Fabrics near us is closing (re-locating to a bigger store), and they’re getting rid of everything, which means big savings. I paid $21 and saved $262! Patterns were $.50 a piece with no limit!

Tim and Quinn

I’ve just been doing the usual mommy stuff, except much less time at my computer during my “me time” while the baby is asleep. I’m ever so slowly catching up on comments and spending most of my leisure time in books. I’m currently at my online request limit for our local libraries online catalogue, and my virtual “book bag” (wish list) is maxed out, too, while I wait for my requests to become available.

The “New” Dog

Tim took Quinn to get her hair shaved, and I guess it’s been a while since we last did it because Cady didn’t recognize the dog. To be honest, the very first time Quinn got this haircut, we didn’t recognize her ourselves.

Although it wasn’t as bad as the time the groomer took out a totally different dog when it was time to pick her up. The conversation went a little like this:
Groomer: “Here’s Quinn.”
Tim: “That’s not Quinn.”
Groomer: “It’s Quinn,” as if we just didn’t recognize her with her new cut.
Tim: “Quinn is white.” This dog was a Yorkie.

Anyway, it’s taking Cady some time to get used to the “new” dog. There was a lot of crying at first. Now we just have conversations like this.

Cady: “Dog. Dog. Quinn.”
Me: “That’s Quinn.”
Cady: “Quinn? No, no, no.”

Life Lately…

Cady

At first I was having blogging withdrawals since my carpal tunnel issues, but I’m starting to get used to not posting and reading. Sorry I haven’t been a good bloggy friend and visiting your sites. The problems have slight improvements if I don’t spend time at my computer since I once spent a lot of time here and sat improperly. I’ve also realized that the way I sleep and do other activities is contributing to the problem. It’s been a major setback on all the things I wanted to accomplish this new year (like learn Photoshop, crochet, make more cakes), but today I’m feeling okay about that.

Quinn at Oyster Creek

We just did the usual types of activities, so nothing crazy happened while I wasn’t writing besides having a great time at the Barney Live, Birthday Bash Tour concert. We went to the library where a little girl kept bringing Tim toys and another little girl wanted to hug Cady with such enthusiasm that they both nearly fell over a few times had I not been cloes enough to catch them. I also went to an indoor play place where I met up with a couple of friends and their daughers. One of them kept thinking my legs were her mom’s and running up to hug them.

Sweet Shot Day

I’m planning on taking an online class for 12 weeks (with about a two week break halfway) at a local junior college, which I’ve read the syllabus for and find pretty interesting. I hope to start in February if we have the money, and if not, I’m sure we will by the time the March class starts. I really think I’ll learn a lot and enjoy it. I’ve also been reading some great books from the library and plan on starting the “assignments” in one book soon.

It’s funny because all throughout college, I was so certain of my major, and now I have no interest in the subject that I got my degree in and have totally different interests. Now I’m like, “why didn’t I study this in college?” Well I know why: because I wasn’t interested in the same things back then.

The “winter” is still bi-polar here. Yesterday it was 70 degrees, but they predict snow for the end of the week.

Tim's cake for Ian

My husband’s friend (who is his “big brother” from his fraternity but is actually younger than him) requested a cake, but he was the one who made it since my hands still need rest. I think he did a great job.

2011 New Year’s Resolutions

Last new year’s eve. Cady and I both brought pajamas to the party and were wearing them by 10pm. We went home before midnight and probably will do the same this year.

Well, I guess I started thinking about New Year’s Resolutions even earlier this year (a couple weeks before Thanksgiving) than last year. What can I say? I get excited by the new start. I was looking over my list from last year, and I’ve decided that some goals just won’t get done, which is fine. Some goals were also kind of vague, but that’s okay. Some of my new ones are, too.
I have an even bigger, more ambitious list for this new year:

– cook new recipes and learn Filipino cooking
– sew, crochet, other crafts, and Silhouette machine projects
– cake/cupcake decorating
– get out more and explore fun things to do in the area
– improve photography skills, photograph daily (and sometimes, be in more of the photos)
– take more family videos
– take dogs to dog park, spend more quality time with them
– give Cady more opportunities to play with other kids
– learn how use Photoshop and to install and use Photoshop actions
– go to church at least once a week
– work on decreasing “Real Age” (eating red meat once a week or less, eating fish more than once a week, flossing, exercise, taking a multi-vitamin daily, eating better)
– post tutorials and recipes on the blog
– spend time with mommy friends (I’ve been a hermit unless Tim was taking me somewhere)
– write to my sponsor child every month and mail letter in a timely manner

Exciting News!

I entered Quinn’s photo to the “Cutest Christmas Photo Contest” at our vet’s office, and she won! At first I had no idea why they were calling since reminders are sent by postcards, and I couldn’t remember bringing any of the pets in recently (since they call to see how our pet is doing after a recent visit).

Her photo will be featured on their shampoo bottles, and we’ll get some free shampoo, too. Neat, huh? When they called to tell me the good news, they said the picture was “perfect” and Quinnie was “so cute” in her outfit. Yay Quinnie!

Holiday Bokeh

I love holiday bokeh! I’ve seen lots of other people do it, but I first discovered it for myself by accident when taking pictures of Quinn in front of the Christmas tree.

A Meetup group in town was going to do a DIY workshop to learn how to do custom bokeh, but I wasn’t able to attend because the RSVP list was full (then I found out later that they had a bunch of no-shows). Just my luck, My3BoyBarbarians posted a link to a tutorial on how to make them just a couple of days later.

The supplies (besides my camera and lens) for the project cost a little more than $3 at Hobby Lobby. I was tempted to buy a whole set of Christmas punches, but I decided to go with just a heart for now.

Doesn’t Quinnie look super excited about her outfit?

What about after hearing the word, “treat?”

Christmas Cuteness- Quinn

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”
Roger Caras

I sat the dog on one of Cady’s plastic chairs to give her some height since she’s a short legged little doggie who could easily walk under the tree, and we wouldn’t get to see it behind her. Plus this keeps her from running away from her spot where she’s being photographed. This tactic has worked on Cady, too, but with less effectiveness. Quinnie has always been such a good model. She’ll even wear bows and doggie clothes. She’s such a sweetie.

I gave her some treats for indulging me. We got these at the groomers’, and I wasn’t sure if they were really for dogs. They look like people food. They smell like people food. I have to admit, I wonder what they taste like.

Sic ‘Em! {and Dog Baylor Dress}

Tonight the Baylor Bears play the Texas Longhorns! Baylor won the game last weekend at homecoming and became bowl eligible for the first time since 1995, #1 in The Big 12 South, and #25 in the AP Poll (first time ranked since ’93)! Sic ’em bears!

P.S. I didn’t make this dress. This is actually an old photo I took in my college apartment my last semester. The dress is custom-ordered from http://www.sassy-petwear.com/.

Little Jack Bauer is 3

Well our little special agent turned 3 on the 12th (and I’m a little behind on this post). Jack is a Bichonpoo with very curly white fur. He often looks like a fake dog… or a muppet. He has long legs and is good at jumping. He will eat treats if other dogs are getting them, but his favorite thing in the world is fetch. He is very friendly, and is the best behaved of all the dogs while riding in the car, except for that time two years ago he jumped out the driver’s side window while riding on my lap (luckily we were stopped at a left turn and he ended up on the median where I could get him after temporarily putting the car in park).

These pictures were taken with the camera in my hand next to me (not in front of my face, so I couldn’t see the viewfinder) while I used my other hand to throw the ball and make sure Cady didn’t fall off her seat next to me. I still really like how they turned out though.

To me, this is what it looks like when a dog is smiling.

Poor Thing

We finally got our dog spayed. She’s kind of an old gal now at 6 years old, but I guess part of me had wanted her to have puppies and kept putting it off. Well, it only took one time while we were out of town last year visiting Tim’s family in California when she was being petsat by my family, and she got pregnant.

I remember Tim waking me up at 2 in the morning while I was pregnant, too, and him telling me, “I think it’s time.” Oh those puppies were a handful, but they were precious. I’m so happy I found the right homes for them.

Quinnie is being a little bit emo right now, but she needs some extra TLC. She’s recovering from surgery.
