Blogging Road Block

Hmmm… It seems I’ve hit an unexpected blogging road block and will have to come to a decision. Apparently I’ve exceeded my limit for free image hosting using Blogger and Picasa Web Albums. I don’t have a problem with paying, but the problem is that the charges (although minimal) are charged annually until eternity. I feel like I’ll be committing to Picasa Web Albums and the subscription for as long as I want my photos to be available on my blog.

Hmm… I do have both Flickr and Photobucket accounts already… I’ll have to look into this matter further, and I guess my new pictures from Wednesday will have to wait while I think it over.

If you like my blog, take a second and please vote for me just by clicking this link, and Top Mommy Blogs will know you were directed from my site. Thanks!

Top Mommy Blogs

{ Cady and I say, “thank you” in advance. }

I just joined Top Mommy Blogs under the Hobby category since I’m always dabbling in different hobbies. You can find the list of blog categories in the far right column of their site.

If you like my blog please vote for me by clicking this button (or the one like it on the side of my blog… or the banner link under my main blog banner… hehehe). You can vote once a day if you like. Thanks!

I’m new to it, so if you’re on there, too, let me know. I’ve been browsing their site and already found so many cool blogs I didn’t know about before.

P.S. I know it’s confusing because it seems strange to me, too, but just clicking on the link to their site from my blog counts as a vote. You don’t have to do anything else. I’m sure because I’ve checked my account to see the votes, although I’m not sure what kind of computer magic does it.

Adding a Blog Button

Not that I can foresee anyone needing to add my blog button for any reason right now, I still decided to make one and put up the code. I enjoy adding things to my blog and thought it wouldn’t hurt to have it around just in case. I used Photobucket to upload the photo since I already have an account there.

These are the two tutorials I used to make mine:

Google Translator Widget

America is my country and Paris is my hometown – Gertrude Stein
{ Paris is favorite city in the world, and I don’t care if that’s cliche. }

I just added the Google Translator widget to my blog that I found just doing a Google search for “google translate widget blog” and not suprisingly, it was the first result. I know from looking at my stats that my blog is viewed from a lot of different countries, which is pretty neat. Hopefully having the option to translate the pages will help. I like using it myself actually.

I’ve looked at it in Tagalog, which I understand better than I speak and speak better than I read. I’ve also looked at it in French which I read better than I speak and speak better than I understand others. I figured I’d try it in Spanish, too, just to see, but even though I recognized some words, I remember less Spanish then the other languages since I only studied it a couple years my early part of high school ten years ago, and learning French pushed most of it out of my memory.

I’ve decided everything sounds more beautiful in French and funnier in Tagalog. I’m not sure how I feel about it in Spanish. The voice in my head isn’t as intriguing as Ana de la Reguera on that Kahlua commercial.

Blog-ography

I had started blogging in 2005 on Xanga. I would often end up abandoning a blog and starting a new one because at the time, changing your username/url wasn’t an option. In 2009, a lot of my mommy friends were blogging about their babies on Blogger, so I decided to do the same. This blog was neglected for a while until I started doing searches for baby craft how-tos, and I found the best ones from mommy blogs. I liked their sites so much, I decided to start “follow”ing them and start posting here again.

“Just Another Day in Paradise” is apparently a popular blog title that I only realized later I wasn’t the only one who thought of. The truth is, it was just the first one I thought of that really stuck to mind, and I got it from the Phil Vasser song. I actually got to see him perform it live at one of our local radio stations where he gave me an autographed photo.

I like country. I like piano. I like that Phil kind of has a Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland’s fictional character from 24, not my dog) thing going on but with more muscles than special agent tactics. Oh yeah, and I really like that he told me I’m cute (maybe he knew I was the one who squealed during his performance– during this song, actually).

Yay For New Fonts!

{ Yes, my keyboard is dusty. }

I’ve been wanting new fonts on my computer for a while but was intimidated because I didn’t know how to install them onto my programs like Word or Picasa. I didn’t know how easy it was! I had saved a link with instrucions on how to do them and where to find fonts, and then today I saw it in my favorites and decided to give it a try. Once I started the process I realized that with the new Windows7, I actually didn’t have to do anything besides download the file, the computer would figure it out, and I could just click install to put the font into my programs. Pretty neat. I just need to figure out which will be the new “me” font on my blog and decide how to start using it. I know I’m a nerd, but I’m very excited about new fonts!

Featured on Swanky Chic Fete!

I have a blog buddy I’ve “known” for a couple of months with a fabulous blog named, Swanky Chic Fete. She just featured Cady’s first birthday party on her blog, so check it out!

When she asked if she could feature Cady’s first birthday party, I was honored! I feel pretty special since this is the first time I’ve ever really been featured on another blog, especially since she is really the hostess with the mostest (check out all the neat details and hard work she puts into gatherings with her friends– they are a lucky bunch)! She also features lots of great shops and design ideas.

P.S. In other cool facts, SCF and I happen to live in the same city, visit some of the same businesses, and are both Filipino. One of these days, we’re bound to run into each other!

Visitors

I checked out Blogger’s new “Stats” feature and was completely shocked at how many people at been looking at my blog recently. I knew my visitors count was going up, but I look at my own page sometimes after writing a post and figured most of those were from me. Well now I know there are a lot more people visiting me than I thought.

The crazy thing is how much my visitor count has jumped in just the last two months. I thought only a few of my friends viewed my blogs every so often since I was just going by the comments, but I was wrong. I went from virtually no views in June to 977 in July, 1,580 in August, and 216 just yesterday. Woah. Ok, so I don’t write this to get visitors, and I know the big blogs get exponentially much more than that. It’s just neat to know.

Like, I didn’t know that people from all over looked at my blog either. The vast majority of the views have been in the US, but there have also been views from Canada, the Philippines, Western Europe, China, Brazil, Australia, and Hong Kong (which was probably my sister when she was there for three weeks).

Stats will also tell you what browsers and operating systems were used to see your blog including Blackberries and iPads. The traffic sources and how many views individual posts got are cool, too. Like I now know a lot of people visit me from a link on a friend’s blog, which now makes me realize what an influence linking up makes.

It’s interesting. I’m glad this feature is available now.

Who knew the random day to day thoughts of a stay at home mom and pictures of cakes and a baby would be interesting to people other than her immediate family and a few friends from school? Not me.

Blogging for Bliss

I’m currently reading Blogging for Bliss by Tara Frey, and enjoying it so much, I’ve quickly devoured nearly the whole thing. I’ve definitely learned a lot so far and am feeling excited to slowly integrate what I’ve read into my blogging. I read straight through all of the text already, but I need to go back and read about the blogs she featured. I want to visit their sites, too.

Cady doesn’t know about blogging yet, but she loves pushing buttons on the keyboard. At least with the desktop, we can detach the keyboard and let her do as she pleases without worry. Yes, this room is a mess, but that’s how it is when we’re having fun.

Right now I’m trying to figure out how to add the Google translator widget, but I’m a little confused. It doesn’t seem to work. Maybe I’m putting the code in the wrong place. Maybe I’m doing something else wrong altogether.

A few other things she mentioned that I was already interested in learning about were photography and photo editing. I mean, I’d like to work on my skills in those areas because I’d like to have great photos, especially of my family, but it would be nice to post better pictures on my blog, too.

I think I’ll make a new banner when the new baby photo shoot pictures are all ready, but it will be a while before the layout is where I want it to be, which is fine with me.
