7 Fun Facts

Thank you to Lili and Jesslyn Amber for the blog awards. Here (finally) are my 7 Fun Facts.

1. I graduated from a Baptist university where I received my B.A. in political science, joined a sorority, and got to ride in the locally televised homecoming parade wearing an evening gown for being one of the homecoming queen nominees as well as participate in other homecoming events.

2. I have somewhat of a curved spine, which wasn’t discovered until x-rays after a car accident (it wasn’t my fault) revealed them to a doctor. My husband said he couldn’t see the curve, but that he could feel it if he touched my back.

3. I love country music. I don’t know if that’s weird because I’m Asian or if people already expect it since I live in Texas, but I don’t really listen to much else (with the exception of baby/kids music). I love cowboy boots, small cities, rodeos, and dancehalls although I haven’t been in any of those since I got married minus the small city when we go back to my alma mater for homecoming.

4. I’m Filipino-American, in case I haven’t mentioned it enough on here already. I love Filipino food and Filipino telenovelas. One of my second cousins who still lives in the Philippines (and is absolutely gorgeous) is an actress who has done a few telenovelas herself. Also, my mom’s late uncle was once a cardinal of the Catholic church in the Philippines.

5. I love Europe. I mean, what girl doesn’t? I first went with my parents in 11th grade and again my freshman year of college before going on my own to complete my language credits. I really enjoy the food, the shopping, and the beautiful cities. I wouldn’t mind living there when the kids are grown up.

6. When my husband and I first got married, we would hold hands in bed every night while we slept. He oftens still takes my hand at night, and it really helps me let go of any worries or anxious thoughts that might keep me from relaxing and going to sleep.

7. Two words: Gabby Gazette. It was my pretend newspaper/magazine about current events in my life on a two column spread I wrote on our family computer when I was in fifth grade using a kids software program called Creative Writer (I had Fine Artist, too). It was a lot of fun, and I would have different sections (all written by me) including a poetry corner. I don’t think I ever printed it for anyone to read, but looking back, it was kind of like my first blog.

I don’t wanna be anything other than what I’ve been tryin’ to be lately,
All I have to do is think of me and have peace of mind,
I’m tired of looking ’round rooms wonder what I gotta do
Or who I’m supposed to be
I don’t wanna be anything other than meGavin DeGraw

2010 Baylor Homecoming Trip Day 2: Waco

Tim ended up being sick all Friday night and Saturday morning. We let the little one sleep until past 11 before Tim decided we would attempt to continue on to Waco after getting ready and stopping for some over the counter medication and a few other items. I offered to drive, but as always, Tim took it for the (family) team.

Cady and I both ended up falling asleep, got startled by some sudden rain, and I fully woke up right before we got to the school. We grabbed a bite at one of my favorite college hangouts, George’s (the very same one in the Pat Green songs), where we heard news from other customers that they cleared the stands at the game due to lightning.

Cady watching a baby at the next table.
Mommy is waking up from her nap in the car, but Cady is ready to eat.
Tim had to take a moment before he could put this happy face on.

We headed up to the school right when it started pouring again, luckily found a spot in the garage by the bookstore, and did a little shopping. The rain cleared up long enough for us to take a few quick photos before having to take cover in the student union building.

I’m guessing it didn’t look like this during the parade.
She was obsessed with these tiny armchairs.
I remember seeing some for about $50 at Garden Ridge.
It would be worth it if it means she’ll sit still for a bit.
Admiring the seal and checking out the homecoming displays in the student union building. This was the backup dress I made in case she couldn’t get into the one I had made her (I’ll try to add a zipper and get her to wear it for a few pics later).
It got cool after the rain, and I’m glad we bought her this weather for the trip (and that I made sure to throw it into my always very full bag).
I would’ve loved to just walk around our beautiful campus to take pictures.
Next time. Hopefully the weather (and our health) will cooperate
There was a lot of puff eating on this trip.
Well they’re really not bad for you, so whatever keeps her happy.
The writing on the building says “Wisdom is better than rubies.”

Since the weather was bad and so was Tim’s condition, we headed back to College Station and actually had a great time just hanging out together at the hotel and snacking on some chicken soup, hotwings, and a fruitcup they sold downstairs.

Victory!

I was so thrilled last night after the game, I decided it was too exciting a night not to go out (even though I haven’t gone out in two years). I didn’t know if I would ever go out again, but I didn’t know Baylor would beat UT either! I’m always proud of the bears, but right now, I’m really, really happy for our school!

SIC ‘EM BEARS!

Taken with our point and shoot. Thank you Mr. Lobster.
My husband’s costume was great for carrying my phone and camera.
Going out together was great. It was like we were on a date 🙂

I spent $.50 on the felt and had everything else. I made the ears Friday night for Halloweentown with Cady (I’ll post pictures soon). In other victories, I had no problems getting into this dress I bought in 2008 from before I had the baby! What an awesome day.

Sic ‘Em! {and Dog Baylor Dress}

Tonight the Baylor Bears play the Texas Longhorns! Baylor won the game last weekend at homecoming and became bowl eligible for the first time since 1995, #1 in The Big 12 South, and #25 in the AP Poll (first time ranked since ’93)! Sic ’em bears!

P.S. I didn’t make this dress. This is actually an old photo I took in my college apartment my last semester. The dress is custom-ordered from http://www.sassy-petwear.com/.

Baylor Baby T Shirt Dress

Yay! I’m so excited to have completed my first baby t shirt dress. I used Lil Blue Boo’s Recycled T Shirt Sienna Dress Pattern that I purchased at her Etsy shop. Cady’s with her grandparents, so I’ll have to update with pictures of her modeling it another time. It turned out great despite one visible mistake that I’m just not in the mood to fix right now, but I’ll probably do it before she actually wears it to homecoming.

Before: two shirts that didn’t fit well anymore

After: a dress for game day!

Excited About Homecoming

Homecoming last year was pretty good. We kept it low key, and I would say it was a successful first try.

Now Cadence is a little older, and I think she can handle a bit more excitement. I think not having to worry about pumping milk every three hours will definitely make things considerably easier. The fact that she’s not a newborn that sleeps all the time will make the car ride a little more difficult since she’s not one of those babies that just sleeps in the car. Not to mention, she hates being in the car.

Our plan is to break up the drive even though it’s a drive that I would have made without any stops by myself or with just one stop at Dairy Queen or McDonald’s when the speed limit slowed down at one of the small towns. It will make it fun since we’ll get to see different things. Maybe we’ll stop at the ice cream factory, maybe walk around a small town, or maybe check out that outlet mall we’ve never been to.

I’ll definitely be making Cadence a t shirt dress from one of my many old college t’s, and I’m planning on making something a little different for myself.

I’m pretty excited to see everyone, especially my sorority sisters and friends, and visit my favorite hang outs. I would have loved to bring a special cake to my sorority’s tailgate tent, but unfortunately, it’s still pretty hot here in the so-called fall, which means no cakes will survive sitting in a parked car during our road trip adventures. If homecoming were in January, the car would virtually be a refrigerator, but football season would be over, which reminds me: college football starts this weekend!

Big 12

Yay. The Big XII stays together with 10. I’m just glad the Texas schools are staying together and maintaining 100+ year old rivalries. People didn’t believe me, but I knew it would work out!

School Spirit

We got this cute Baylor dress when we went up to school for the 100th anniversary of homecoming from UBS.

Well, upon closer inspection of the dress, I think it’s just a T-shirt dress like the ones I made for my sister to wear to A&M football games but really, really small. This prompted me to look at some of my old college shirts. I do house quite a college of university and sorority shirts that take up a lot of space in my drawers and I’ve been wondering what to do with. Duh. Recycle. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, especially after making the T-shirt dresses for my sister and turning my “So Real Cru” shirt into a halter last year.
