It could be sew me…

As a kid, I remember making my own paper dolls. I also had a Barbie designing set that allowed you to trace over a lightbulb, use textures for fabric patterns, and create mix and match designs. I even had a Barbie fashion design software that allowed you to design your own clothes on a computer, see Barbie model them on the virtual runway, and even print out your designs onto printer friendly fabric to really create the clothes.

I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes, and now I’d like to create styles that are exactly right for me. This desire is now coming from necessity in a way. A lot of clothes I like are much more than I’d want to spend.

I’m not trying to be a fashion designer or a contestant on Project Runway (although I do have some of their Simplicity patterns). I’d just like to have the clothes I like at an affordable price and a good fit. I know that doesn’t sound like too much to ask, but it actually has been a pretty difficult task trying to find what I’m looking for.

The more and more trouble I am having finding what I want by shopping, the more I think I should really work on my sewing skills. It should be interesting. I actually have no idea what I’m doing. I’m going to try to make a trip to Jo Ann Fabric’s this week and get started.
