Cakes = Calm

I think it’s been a pattern of mine to obsess over something intensely for a while, and right now I’ve had cakes on the brain. I feel a little guilty that I’ve spent so much money on cake decorating supplies, but Tim has been really supportive of my new hobby. Actually, it was his idea that I take up a hobby. He thought it would help relieve some of my anxiety and just be good for me in general. He was right of course.

I don’t even have to be doing anything. Just having something to think about (cakes) takes my mind off all the things that swirl around my head and give me worries. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I ignore things that need to be taken care of, but I’m able to let go and think about something more pleasant when I need to do so. They’re pretty and delicious and therefore, make for rather pleasant thoughts indeed.

Right now my favorite websites are:
Wilton– They have decorating tutorials, recipes, and products.
Wilton on Youtube– They show you on video how to do things step by step.
Hobby Lobby’s online store– I have a long wish list there now. I love it.
Cake Central– I look at the cakes on here every day for ideas of cakes I might make some day, and I especially like looking at the class cakes because I know that I will be making those in the near and definite future.

I just finished Course I last month. This month (tomorrow) I’ll be starting the Wilton Method Fondant and Gumpaste Course. I’m very excited about it, and I’m also excited about taking Course II in April, and finishing up with Course III in May. I don’t have any plans for becoming a professional cake decorator, but I do have a goal– to be able to make my daughter’s birthday cake for her 1st birthday in August!
